  • 15 Steps

About

This unit builds technical skills in skirt construction, guiding you through the complete process of designing, cutting, and assembling a fitted lined skirt. It develops competence in fabric selection, pattern interpretation, and the application of core dressmaking techniques. Learners will be expected to work with accuracy, apply professional finishing methods, and evaluate their garment against design intentions. What You’ll Cover: - Fabric & Materials – selecting appropriate fabrics and haberdashery (threads, zips, interfacing, fastenings) to suit a fitted lined skirt. - Design & Preparation – researching skirt styles, sketching design ideas, interpreting patterns, and calculating fabric, cost, and time requirements. - Core Sewing Techniques – accurate cutting, seam construction, waist finishes, inserting a zip, applying a lining, and hemming by hand or machine. - Construction & Finishing – assembling the skirt, fitting and adjusting, pressing for a professional result, and presenting the completed garment. - Reflection & Evaluation – documenting the process, producing a cost sheet and timescale, and critically evaluating the finished skirt. By completing this unit, you will produce a fitted lined skirt to a professional standard and demonstrate the technical and evaluative skills required for progression to more advanced garment‑making units.
