About
This module guides you through the complete process of working with sewing patterns — from reading the envelope to cutting your fabric. Alongside this, you’ll be introduced to our comprehensive Fitting Foundations Library, a structured resource that supports you in understanding body measurements, ease, and the principles behind achieving a personalised fit. You’ll learn how to take accurate measurements, compare them to pattern sizing, and make informed decisions before you even pick up your scissors. You’ll learn how to interpret fabric recommendations, yardage, sizing charts, and notions, then move inside the pattern to understand symbols, seam lines, grainlines, and layout diagrams. You’ll explore different pattern formats — tissue, PDF, and blocks — and practise choosing the right size, identifying areas that may need adjustment, and applying foundational fitting concepts to set yourself up for success. Finally, you’ll prepare your fabric, lay out and mark your pieces, and cut with accuracy. By the end, you’ll have the confidence to select, understand, and use patterns effectively, supported by a clear grounding in fitting principles that will carry through every garment you make.
