Terms and Conditions for City & Guilds Accredited Online Courses
Last updated: 03/08/2026
1. Agreement
By enrolling in a City & Guilds accredited online course with Golden Rose Sewing School (“the School”), you (“the Student”) agree to these Terms and Conditions, which form a legally binding contract.
If you book a course on behalf of another person, these Terms are binding on both you and the participant. References to “you” shall include “the participant” where appropriate. You are responsible for ensuring the participant is aware of these Terms, and you indemnify the School against any loss, damage, or liability resulting from failure to do so.
2. Enrolment and Contract Formation
-
A contract is formed when the School confirms acceptance of your enrolment and receives payment (in full or first instalment).
-
Enrolment is non-transferable.
-
The School reserves the right to decline enrolment at its discretion.
-
Students must ensure that their full legal name is submitted correctly at enrolment, as this will be the name printed on the City & Guilds certificate.
3. Course Access and Registration
-
Course materials are available for immediate access once payment has been received.
-
Your City & Guilds registration number will be issued within 4 weeks of enrolment.
-
Each course has a defined registration period (“course life”), as stated on the course description page.
-
Extensions may be granted at the School’s discretion, subject to additional fees and City & Guilds’ continued approval.
-
To ensure course content remains current, no more than 2–3 modules will be released at a time, even for students who have paid in full.
4. Course Materials, Equipment, and Assessments
-
Course fees include City & Guilds registration and certification fees.
-
Students must have access to:
-
A sewing machine and basic haberdashery (needles, threads, fabrics).
-
A digital camera (or smartphone with a good-quality camera) to record progress.
-
Internet access and basic IT skills, using a phone, tablet, or computer.
-
A printer is advantageous for worksheets and patterns but not required.
-
Students are responsible for sourcing their own materials. Costs vary depending on individual project choices. Materials may be sourced economically (e.g. charity shops, discount stores, or using what you already have) or more expensively, at the student’s discretion.
-
-
Good-quality photographs of work must be submitted for assessment. If images are unclear, students may be asked to re-shoot or, rarely, send in the physical piece.
-
Assessment feedback is provided for every assessment submitted throughout each module.
-
Written feedback details any required alterations or additions.
-
Informal feedback is provided as needed.
-
-
Students may revise and resubmit work until it meets course criteria.
-
Tutors aim to respond within 10 working days, though delays of up to 2 weeks may occur due to holidays or teaching commitments.
-
Tutors are always available via email. For video or phone consultations, students must first email to arrange a mutually convenient time and outline the topics to be discussed. After the call, the tutor will send a summary email, which the student must confirm or correct within 10 days.
-
The School may involve additional tutors or assessors to ensure continuity of teaching.
5. Payment and Fees
-
Fees are published on the School’s website.
-
Instalment plans require timely payment. Certificates will not be issued until all fees are paid in full.
-
If final certification fees are unpaid, a one-month grace period will be allowed. After this, re-submission fees at the current City & Guilds rate will apply.
-
Prices are subject to change but will be honoured for the agreed course duration.
6. Cancellation and Refunds
-
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you may cancel within 14 days of enrolment if you have not accessed substantial course content.
-
If you begin study within the 14-day period, you may still cancel but will be charged proportionately.
-
No refunds are available after 14 days.
7. Certification
-
Courses are considered complete only when all modules are satisfactorily finished and verified internally and externally by City & Guilds.
-
Certification may take up to 8 weeks following submission for verification.
-
Occasionally, City & Guilds may require physical work to be submitted; postage costs are the student’s responsibility.
-
UK students receive a physical certificate; international students receive a digital PDF.
8. Student Responsibilities
-
Submit only original work. Plagiarism or misrepresentation will result in termination without refund.
-
Conduct must be respectful at all times.
-
Students are responsible for the safe use of sewing equipment and materials at all times. Students must ensure they work in a safe environment, follow appropriate health and safety practices, and take reasonable precautions when using tools, machinery, and materials.
-
Students must be able to read and write in English to a level sufficient to understand course materials, complete written assignments, and communicate effectively with tutors.
-
Students are expected to undertake additional independent study and research beyond the guided learning hours, including sourcing inspiration, reviewing reference materials, and documenting their design process, in order to meet City & Guilds assessment standards.
9. Changes Beyond Our Control
-
Any changes made by City & Guilds to course content, deadlines, or qualification availability are binding on the School and must be adhered to by students.
-
The School cannot be held responsible for delays or inability to complete a qualification caused by City & Guilds changes or by late submission of work (less than 6 weeks before final certification deadlines).
10. Liability
-
The School is not liable for losses caused by events beyond its control.
-
Liability is limited to the value of fees paid.
-
Nothing excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
-
The School is not responsible for accidents, injuries, or damage that occur in the student’s own workspace while undertaking the course. Students are solely responsible for ensuring their own safety and the safety of others when using sewing machines, tools, and materials at home.
11. Complaints
-
Informal concerns should be raised with the School.
-
Formal complaints must be submitted in writing.
-
If unresolved, complaints may be escalated to City & Guilds.
12. Data Protection
-
Personal data is processed in accordance with UK GDPR and the School’s Privacy Policy.
13. Governing Law
-
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
-
Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.
