This course is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to start dressmaking. During this course you will learn a variety of techniques that you can use to continue your sewing journey.
During this course you will learn the basics of dressmaking from using a pattern, choosing fabrics, different seam finishes and much more. You will take home two finished garments from either a pair of pants or a skirt; and either a t-shirt or tank top.
The course is 25 hours.

Class Description
This course is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to start dressmaking. During this course you will learn a variety of techniques that you can use to continue your sewing journey.
You will take home two finished garments from either a pair of pants or a skirt; and either a t-shirt or tank top.
We will be using the Seamwork Bristol skirt, the Seamwork Joss pants, Seamwork Clarke tank top and the Seamwork Hansie t-shirt.
If you would prefer to use another pattern, please get in touch.
This dressmaking course is ideal for newbies or a great refresher for those long time sewists. Fabric for all the patterns is included, but you do need to collect it beforehand so you can wash it and dry it.
The class includes the pattern with beginner-friendly instructions and colour photos showing you each step – making it easy for you to create gorgeous clothes you can be proud to say you made yourself.
We will cover:
- Taking your measurements and comparing to the pattern sizes.
- Choosing your size.
- Making any pattern alterations needed.
- Understanding your pattern pieces.
- Choosing your fabric.
- Marking your fabric.
- Cutting your fabric.
- Creating a variety of different seams and hems, including a french seam and rolled hem.
- Finishing seams.
- Elasticated Waistbands.
- Darts.
- Attaching a facing.
This course is over 10 weeks on a Wednesday evening. Please ensure you can attend all dates before booking.
Is this course right for me?
This class is designed for beginners or for those that need a refresher. This is class not suitable for those who haven’t already attended our absolute beginners sewing class or have some experience setting up a machine as we do not cover this as part of the class.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring along your choice of fabric (prewashed) which is included, but you do need to get this in advance so it can be prewashed. You will also need a reel of matching thread or this can be purchased on the day.
Details of fabric requirements will be sent by email when you book the course.
You will also need to bring lunch if you’re here for the day, we don’t want you to starve. We have a fridge and a microwave as well as the all important kettle.

You can bring your own fabric if you choose. Please ensure you have your fabric beforehand so it can be prewashed.
All tools and equipment are provided.
Refreshments and biscuits to keep you going are also included.
You need to make sure on checkout to choose which option you will be making and also choose your dress size so that the correct sized pattern is ready for you.
The course is 25 hours over 10 weeks.

Please check the dates carefully prior to booking. Once an order is placed it cannot be refunded.
If for any reason you are unable to attend please contact us and we will try to find someone to take your place. Golden Rose Sewing School is not contractually obliged to find a replacement but we can try to find someone as a gesture of good will. If this is not possible feel free to send a substitute. If you book a class for several days duration please make sure you can attend all days. Once made, a booking cannot be transferred to an alternative date.
All classes must be paid for in full either prior to the event or on the day of the event. If you have paid a deposit this is non-refundable.
Payment for the deposit can be made on the website. Payments for the remaining balance can be paid by bank transfer or by card at the school. We do not store or have access to your bank details. This is securely processed by Wix payments and Sumup.
In the unlikely event that a class is cancelled, we will attempt to give as much warning as possible. We will email you and phone you if you have provided us with a telephone number. We will refund your booking fee or transfer you to another class of the same value, space permitting. Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for wasted travel cost.
