Class Description
During this class you will create a set of high‑quality technique samples while learning:
- French seam – perfect for lightweight fabrics
- Flat‑felled seam – strong, durable, ideal for shirts
- Clean stitch finish – a simple, tidy edge finish
- Piped seam - to add decorative details to any seam
- Hong Kong finish - a great way to finish your seams in heavier fabric
- Centred zip – the classic zip insertion
- Invisible zip – crisp and professional
- Machine blindstitch hem – a neat, nearly invisible hem using the sewing machine
This class is designed to help you improve your finish and gain confidence in the techniques used in dressmaking.
All fabric pieces are pre‑cut so you can focus entirely on learning the methods.
You will leave with a labelled set of samples and printed technique sheets to support your future sewing.
Is this right for me?
This class is perfect for:
- Beginners who have completed our Absolute Beginners class
- Anyone who has sewn a simple garment and wants to improve their finish
- Sewists who want to refresh or refine their technique
- Dressmaking students preparing for more advanced projects
This class is not suitable for complete beginners who have never used a sewing machine, as we do not cover machine setup in this session.
What do I need to bring?
Just bring yourself — everything else is provided.
You’ll receive:
- Pre‑cut fabric samples
- Zips (centred + invisible)
- Interfacing where needed
- Thread (or you may bring your own if you prefer)
You’re welcome to bring a snack or lunch.
We have a fridge, microwave, and kettle available for use.

Please check the dates carefully prior to booking. Once an order is placed it cannot be refunded.
If for any reason you are unable to attend please contact us and we will try to find someone to take your place. Golden Rose Sewing School is not contractually obliged to find a replacement but we can try to find someone as a gesture of good will. If this is not possible feel free to send a substitute. If you book a class for several days duration please make sure you can attend all days. Once made, a booking cannot be transferred to an alternative date.
All classes must be paid for in full either prior to the event or on the day of the event. If you have paid a deposit this is non-refundable.
Payment for the deposit can be made on the website. Payments for the remaining balance can be paid by bank transfer or by card at the school. We do not store or have access to your bank details. This is securely processed by Wix payments and Sumup.
In the unlikely event that a class is cancelled, we will attempt to give as much warning as possible. We will email you and phone you if you have provided us with a telephone number. We will refund your booking fee or transfer you to another class of the same value, space permitting. Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for wasted travel cost.
