Class Description

This course is ideal if you are fed up of clothes that don’t fit you properly or if you would love to learn how to create sewing patterns to your own specific measurements.

During this 12 week course you will learn the basics of pattern cutting; how to draft your own pattern blocks and how to manipulate them to create stylish garments.

What we will cover:

- How to take accurate body measurements

- How to draft a fitted bodice, sleeve and skirt block.

- How to create and fit a calico toile using your block.

- How to assess fit and make adjustments to your toile. The changes will be transferred back to the paper pattern and if necessary a second toile made.

- How to create a final block in cardboard which can be used for future projects.

- How to adapt the paper pattern to specific designs, and use the block to adapt commercial patterns.

Is this course right for me?

This is class not suitable for those who haven’t already attended our absolute beginners sewing class or have some experience setting up a machine as we do not cover this as part of the class.

Ideally you will have attended our beginners dressmaking class or have made a simple garment before. You should have experience using a commercial pattern. There is some maths/working with numbers involved in this class related to your measurements.

What do I need to bring?

You will need a phone with a calculator or an actual calculator. Ideally you will also have your own set of pilot pencils.

What’s included?

- Use measuring tools and equipment.

- Use of sewing machines and tools.

- Pattern paper.

- Fabric for making a toile.

- Card for final block.

This course is 30 hours over 12 sessions in the evening 5.30pm to 8pm. Please ensure you can attend all dates before booking.
